Well, you never know. A non-tropical low that far north can surprise you the way Arlene did; and it's debatable as to whether Arlene should have been named yet; but then again a january sub-tropical storm didn't get a name and maybe it SHOULD have, but maybe the NHC didn't want to name it for frar of criticism of naming it since it was January and not June. Too keep folks happy, they likely decided not naming that borderline storm. I am sure they get SOME flak for doing just that; naming SOME borderline hybrid storms.
I really, really wish the Atlantic and Gulf were a lot cooler and yeah could use that Saharan dust. I still haven't got the house completely fixed from Ian. Not happy about that but with all the damage things are behind for everyone. Do have the roof repaired but the lanai and added laundry room still need work.
Things are basically fine. Unfortunately, my Dad died December 29th of heart disease. Since then, Mom has not lived at our normal home; we are living at my brother's, because Mom can't bear to stay home but realizes sooner or later she needs to go back home; we can't stay at my brother's forever........It's just that staying at our normal home reminds her too much of my Dad, who was one of the best family men, Federal judge, lawyer we ever had. He was our world........Now it's no longer the same world without him. We can only cope as best we can. He died in a hospital; we were at his side. He was buried at our hometown of Elmira, New York, with military honors, as he served in Vietnam for a good several months before being wounded by an enemy bullet during a battle in which he protected his men who were pinned by enemy fire, killing 5 enemy soldiers. After his service, he practiced law and later became a judge, but not Federal till 1998. He was appointed for life. He never retired. He served 24 years on the Federal bench, so that's a great achievement. He will always be missed. I am glad you are slowly making progress, as slow as it is, on your house. Did you have all insurance straightened out? I guess, little by little, it gets better, just like my Mom's grieving and healing process. It takes time. I'm glad to hear from you. Talk later. Bye.
Sorry to hear about your loss and he deserves to be remembered. Sadly I lost my sister in law in January to peritonitis after the hospital failed to diagnose a bowel obstruction. She suffered quite horribly before the end. I wish I could have been there but was going through a lot myself at the time and couldn't travel. she was a wonderful lady who would do anything to help others and the whole family is having trouble dealing with the loss, especially when it could so easily have been avoided.
The insurance company hired the roofers who did a great job replacing the roof and three skylights. They sent me a check to cover their part of the lanai and laundry room repair and I am in line with others for that to be done, hopefully soon. Here's hoping this hurricane season isn't as bad and every one of them stays at sea.
Peritonitis is a horrible condition of terrible abdominal pain. You wonder what doctors, if some even know what they are doing? A bowel obstruction should have been seen on a CT scan. They could have removed it surgically, and she's be alive now; that's what's so sad for you and family. Did she live in Florida? I hope your home repairs can be done soon. Could be a plume of tropical Gulf moisture setting up in the next 2 weeks, and I see there's a post from Mike highlighting a possibility at least on the models. Of course, the models love to spin up these things; they have to be taken with a grain of salt, but don't let your guard down; models can have an uncanny way of being right. All it takes is one, and you're done!! We don't want that. We just hope you get your ordinary garden-variety thunderstorms. I hope you have a nice day!! We are having terrible wildfire smoke here high altitudes, from Canada wildfires; it has blotted out the sun; I am sure it's not just clouds. It's that smoke. Worst I've ever seen it in maybe 15 years. I hoped I would never see this again, but this is what we got. Talk to you later. Bye.

They'd undoubtedly get criticism either way. Some people are just never happy.
I agree. Dam if you do, dam if you don't. How are you, Laura? How's things at your home? Is everything OK?
