National Weather Service loses the equivalent of a decade of its workforce in just three months, with forecast offices scrambling to maintain 24/7 operations
Very GLAD to see your post, Mr. Lowry! 🙂 I can only imagine how inundated you've been - I read the NOAA PassBack document, so I can't imagine how everyone coping with all the mess.
So I'm extra grateful (& relieved) that you're here ⚘
Very disturbing news . More so about the current " administration" hatchet job of a crucial organization....as much as any news about tropical cyclone numbers! Say it loud.... GULF OF MEXICO!!! I resist! proudly!
I think he Is here for us, or he wouldn't keep us informed every summer. He is not doing any "political fearmongering" or "whining" as some of these posters accuse him of doing. They allege NOAA was bloated or wasteful. How? NOAA studies not just weather, but climate and the oceans. They are the ones who monitor the oceans for tsunamis and storm swells. They monitor the ocean cirrents, the water temps, the ecosystem. What the administration is doing with the DOGE cuts is they are cutting not just the fat, but the bone of our existence!! They are cutting NOAA research; they are cutting people who make, and maintain the models, including any new ones they come up with. They are possibly reducing hurricane hunter flights. Satellites alone can't simply replace the flights. The flights, for example, are NOT "bloat and waste". The flights are a necessary tool in model improvements and data gathering. Without the flight data, you have no extra model data. Therefore, you have what Mike is concerned about; inaccurate forecasts. This cost-cutting and layoffs and partial closure of offices could hurt us in the long run, and wait till we get to winter!! Not to mention we might return to the days of surprise snowstorms again. You can see why Mike is concerned. How would these other posters feel if one of these days they get a surprise hurricane and lose their home, loved ones, their livelihood? THEN, what would they think? Would they blame Michael Lowery? I don't think so!! Of course, they will blame Trump; because DOGE should NOT have ever touched NOAA and the NWS. Now they HAVE; and who knows what consequences we'll see in the short and long runs? I hope he and others are wrong, and I hope they re-think their DOGE cuts of NOAA and NWS. Before it's too late!!
We can do without the political fear mongering and emotionally charged rhetoric, Mike. NOAA was bloated and wasteful. Stop whining. Just do your job and forecast the weather.
How pathetic. I don't expect people like you to ever accept responsibility for the results of your actions, because you're clearly incapable of rational thought, refuse to accept simple facts and accurate information, always play the victims, always blame everybody else, and always accuse everybody else of doing the exact thing YOU YOURSELF are doing. In other words, you're exactly like your dear leader.

Good job Michael!

There's no fearmongering here. Facts are simple facts. Why don't you try them, Sam I am.
