OK some good news; it had appeared as though one of those entities might linger for many days in the Atlantic, giving it a possible opening to go to the U.S. I guess that's not going to happen. Laura T., if you are reading this, are you OK? I think you live near the peace River; the news is NOT good. I saw video from storm chaser Reed Timmer today; he says the water is only down a couple inches; that is NOT good, Laura. Many houses are floating in flood water. Street signs covered in water; submerged cars. None of this is good, Laura. Many folks who survived the storm, and if they see video of the Peace River and they live there, none of this is good news for many hundreds of folks who may live there. Laura, I pray for you and countless other folks that may have their work cut out for them. Laura, I wish you the best of luck.

I live in Punta Gorda 1/4 mile from the Peace River. When I heard Ian was going to be hitting here and was like Charley on major steroids I left about 2 hours before it hit and drove up to Arcadia then across to the top of Lake Okeechobee then down to Clewiston where I spent the day and most of the night sitting in a closed Walmart parking lot with about 500 other people. After the last of the side storms passed I drove home at about 3:30 in the morning. It was pitch black all the way up I-75, saw only about 5 vehicles the whole trip. Had to sit at the entrance to my park until daylight as there was debris everywhere.

When I got home I found half the roof over my laundry room gone along with some of the siding there and three window panels on my lanai gone. The roof is missing a couple hundred shingles but didn't leak during the storm. Lucked out big time. No flooding here at all. I think most of the flooding was out in Punta Gorda Isles which is all canals on Charlotte Harbor and farther upriver. Downtown was dry the next day and my park had no problem with water.

Power just came back on this afternoon so first chance I have had to get on the internet. Three power chargers to keep my phone going through the whole mess. I had plenty of food and 20 gallons of bottled water so was set pretty well.

Went downtown for dinner last night and for lunch today, noticed everything pretty much back to "looking" normal. Restaurants have their outside tables back in place and everyone socializing...until they head home and have to deal with the devastation there. Piles of siding, roofing, car ports, furniture, etc, everywhere. It is going to be a long time cleaning up before things are truly normal again/

I am glad you are safe and sound. I was concerned about you. Other than some roof damage and window pane/lanai damage, I guess you lucked out well!! I think you pretty much traveled the way you were thinking of going on Wednesday. I am glad you are unharmed. Glad to be talking to you again!! On a happier note, Cape Canaveral blasted a crew of astronauts into space about a Space X rocket; that was right at noon Wednesday. They docked at the Space Station yesterday at 5:01 P.M. So, I thought I would end this by giving you something to end on a happy note!!

Was your refrigerator food OK or did you have to throw any out and go to the store and buy some?

I threw everything out just to be on the safe side. After the fridge cooled down when the power came on I went to the grocery store but they were completely out of meat, eggs, dairy and of all things, pasta. Wish I could have seen the launch. Oh well, I'll catch one someday.

THere was supposed to be one tonight from the Cape but it got scrubbed till tomorrow night. You MAY be able to actually see it around dusk, I think it's around 7. It is on You Tube; the big Artemis launch is supposed to be November 12th. Anyhow, did you shop at Publix? Hopefully you did get SOME supplies; probably your store is still recovering from pre-hurricane preps when many people bought all sorts of stuff and cleaned out the store, LOL!! Hopefully you can get your dairy products, meat, and pasta soon!!
