Hi Michael. Is there a way to know which ENSO's phase was in place in X hurricane season? Personally, I would like to document which phase was present during the landfalls of cyclones that affected Puerto Rico, obviously in recent decades.
Hi Felipe, yes. Your best source for this is the Oceanic Niño Index (ONI) maintained by NOAA (https://origin.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/analysis_monitoring/ensostuff/ONI_v5.php). Find the ASO (August-September-October) value to determine which phase was present during a particular hurricane season...red (0.5 or greater)=El Niño, blue (-0.5 or lower)=La Niña. Cheers!

Got one more question. If red (0.5 or greater) = El Niño, and blue (-0.5 or lower) = La Niña, How can I identify Neutral?
Oh great Michael, thanks! Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your knowledge.
