We were lucky here in Punta Gorda. I went out to Charlotte Harbor when Idalia was parallel to us and it was peaceful and had a brief few rays of sun. The roads were dry after a couple of brief bands earlier. Last night we got band after band of heavy rain and tropical storm force winds with a tornado alert until 6 am. The rain bands are still coming through from Idalia's very long tail but not bad. Localized flooding only in low lying areas. Never lost power.
I feel for those in area with storm surge and high wind damage. It was no fun last year here when Ian came through. I hope everyone stays safe.
I am glad Punta Gorda made out OK!! I knew you were not in line to get the actual hurricane itself; and that would have been the LAST thing you needed, as your house is still not fully repaired from Ian. The storm Idalia will not be coming back for a 2nd visit next week. I suppose that idea was likely due to bad model data, as it is very rare for another storm to block another storm from going east and turning it back. Nature rarely does those things. That was why I have been skeptical the last couple of days the models were doing this; and today the models finally gave up. The storm will stay out to sea and hang out near Bermuda.
When they weren't sure if the storm would veer right or not a lot of us here were quite nervous. We were quite happy for ourselves when it did the move farther west so we weren't likely to get more than a side brushing but still feel so badly for those who did get hit. It really is no fun to be in the path of one of those monsters. I didn't think it would do the reverse and come back thing as that is so very rate. It isn't comfortable to see 8 major hurricanes since 2017 hit the Gulf coast. I sincerely hope there are no more of them this year anywhere on the Gulf.
It would be nice if they would all stay out to sea this year. I haven't bothered to go out to the Gulf at al as if I want water that warm I can use the pool here in our complex or the bathtub at home
Thank you!

Sbout mid-September, the red-hot Gulf will FINALLY start cooling down. I don't think there will be another Gulf storm this year.

Right now the Gulf is like a heated pool, LOL!!
Almost a hot tub.
