Can you comment on Philip Kotzbach (CSU climate) note: "The Northern Hemisphere has yet to have its first named storm (e.g., tropical storm or #hurricane) in 2024. This is the first time since 1983 that the Northern Hemisphere has gone this late in the calendar year without a named storm."

This would seem to fit the narrative that Saharan dust will mute the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane season, at least at the beginning.

I really sincerely hope that we don't get a La Nina. I just finished the last of the repairs and upgrades to the house after Ian's unfortunate visit. Some of my neighbors who had never been through a hurricane before decided one was enough after that bugger and moved back north. Sadly they still have natural disasters to deal with, just different ones and frequently more than one type. It would be nice if they stay all fish storms but that isn't likely.
