Colorado State University predicts an “extremely active” hurricane season in 2024, with 23 named storms, 11 hurricanes, and five Category 3 or stronger hurricanes
I'm so glad to see you back! Youe information is vital and welcome for us in south west florida to know what is happening, why and how to plan. Thanks for all your work, your writing is clear even to us novices.
This is his first post this year, and it is earlier than when he posts in June, which is great!! It's nice to see you back as well, Cate. If the MDR is at 79 now, I wonder if it will be 90-95 in August? Has it ever been in the 90s? Parts of the Gulf could do that, depending on how hot it gets in the Deep South and over the Gulf.
Oddly our winter was quite chilly at night for southern Florida. Usually it is only a couple of nights but this time it was more like a couple of months. The house is back to normal but I am going to have a new storm door put on the lanai even though it has been bent back into shape and closes alright. I want something heavier for this season.
I did have a TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement) done in January. It took about an hour and I was on my feet than evening and home the next day. Doing so much better absolutely no pain or bleeding at all after..
This winter was weird, not only cooler but normally it is our dry season and for some years we have had drought during the winter. This winter was very wet, raining frequently. The lake behind my house is normally down a few feet by now but this year is still full and even slightly over its usual capacity. Not complaining though as no wildfires around here. Could be a problem if we get a hurricane come through as normally we have no flooding here despite being so near the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor.
I would not be surprised if there is a late April or May subtropical or tropical storm. I hope you are well, Laura. How did you do this winter? How are you feeling, and did you have the heart procedure? Is your house all back to normal? We had a mild winter and so far only 60 inches of snow, which is half the normal total!!

I'm so glad to see your article, Mr. Lowry! I'm very grateful for your analysis, as always.
I read the CSU report this morning, and I was hoping it would be a little more encouraging, but facts are as they are.
I'm really grateful for everyone here, I'm wishing everyone safety, health and peace this year.

With the waters already warm enough to trigger a hurricane I wonder how soon we will get the season started this year.
