Hurricane WILMA had the fastest intensity increase rate for an Atlantic hurricane, intensifying from a 60-knot tropical storm to a 150-knot Category 5 hurricane in just 24 hours from October 18-19, 2005. This was a record-breaking increase in wind speed over a 24-hour period, equivalent to going from \(70\) mph to \(175\) mph in a single day. The storm reached a peak wind speed of (185) mph at its strongest point. Minimum pressure recorded: 882mb !

I had really hoped it wouldn't strengthen until well past the islands. The damage is going to be hellacious so all one can hope for as that everyone stays safe.
